MovieSnack app
-
The Problem
Moviegoers want an efficient way to order snacks without waiting in long lines and missing some previews or the movie.
-
The Goal
My goal was to design a snack ordering app that allows moviegoers to easily order snacks and have them ready for pickup when they arrive.
-
My Role: UX Designer
My responsibilities included user research, wire-framing, prototype, usability testing, iteration, and the creation of the high-fidelity prototype.
Targeted User Personas
My user research included interviewing four participants who are frequent moviegoers. This research helped me get a better understanding of the targeted audience and their behavior. A primary user group identified through research was working adults who want to have their snacks ready when they arrive at the movie theater. They want to be able to pick them right up and go to their seat. I used these insights to create user personas that represent the people I’m designing for.
User Journey Map
I created a User Journey Map to better empathize with the user during their snack buying process. This process helped me get a grasp on their emotions during the process as well as identify improvement opportunities in the user experience.
-
Problem Statement
Next, I created problem statements to gain clarity and narrow the focus of my designs. I gave each persona a different problem statement to address different, but equally important problems.
-
Competitive Analysis
A competitive analysis was created and was the perfect way to learn from competing apps in the space. I was able to educate myself on the deficiencies in the existing market.
-
User Flow
After having a firm understanding of the expected checkout process for this niche, I created this user flow to create a foundation of the primary user navigation in the MovieSnack app.

Low-fidelity Prototyping
A basic prototype was created for the purposes of usability testing with my research participants.
-
Usability Study
I used my lo-fi prototype to conduct a usability test. Here are the parameters of that test.
-
Affinity Diagram
I created an affinity diagram was used to categorize the observations of the research participants.
-
Pattern Chart
A pattern chart helped to identify where most users had difficulty or pain points while using the prototype.
Final Designs
After reviewing user feedback and ideating solutions, I redesigned the layout. I moved away from any horizontal scrolling and made it purely vertical. The final mockup addressed all of the key issues that arose during usability testing. This prototype can be viewed here.
